Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has commenced the signalling and integrated testing trials of the entire North-South route.

According to officials, it would take another 4-5 weeks to complete these trials before the final approvals would come by for launching the commercial services on the entire 23 km route, beyond the already operational 8.5 km run between Transport Nagar and Charbagh Railway Station.

With this, Lucknow Metro has taken another step in keeping with the title of the country’s fastest completing metro project. LMRC already has the distinction of completing the priority section of 8.5 km in the shortest possible time in India.

In 2015, Alstom was awarded the Rs 1,070 crore contract by LMRC to provide 20 metro train sets, each of 4 cars. These trains are equipped with the latest Communication Based Train Control Signaling system (CBTC) with Automatic Train Protection (ATP) for automatic braking to prevent and avert any collision. The Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) system ensures the automatic management of train movement by continuous supervision even during abnormalities.

Another East-West route to link other areas of Lucknow has also been proposed, and it would be taken up after the current project is completed and fully operational.
