After the top brass of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered presence at the ongoing Kumbh 2019, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his younger sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are now likely to visit the largest congregation of faith in Prayagraj (Allahabad) this month.
After her anointment as general secretary in charge of Eastern Uttar Pradesh last month to prepare Congress as a fighting fit unit before 2019 Lok Sabha polls, there have been reports of Rahul and Priyanka visiting Kumbh, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers, for the proverbial holy dip.
On Sunday, Prime Minister and BJP mascot Narendra Modi had visited Kumbh and after taking the holy dip and offering prayers, washed the feet of a few sanitation staff members for keeping the Kumbh Mela area clean. So far, about 230 million people have already visited Kumbh since January 15.
After tasting success in the three Hindi heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Congress has been pandering to soft and competitive Hindutva to counter the onslaught of BJP.
While, Priyanka has been made in charge of East UP, former union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has been made in charge of Western UP. Priyanka and Scindia have 43 and 37 parliamentary constituencies respectively under their belt in UP for poll management.
BJP president Amit Shah, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, union highways minister Nitin Gadkari apart from other senior party leaders had already visited Kumbh. Besides, former UP CM and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav had also visited Kumbh.
