Kumbh 2019 in Prayagraj (Allahabad), which has logged visitor count of more than 230 million devotees and tourists, has earned the distinction of creating three Guinness World Records in the current edition.
The three world records pertained to general sanitation, mural painting and longest lineup of shuttle buses. The state government has already been provided with the respective certificates by the Guinness officials.
Kumbh, the largest congregation of faith, which had started on January 15, officially concluded today with the final ‘Shahi Snan’ (royal bath) on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, which pays obeisance to revered Lord Shiv.
Not only general public, but top politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav etc also visited Kumbh 2019 to take the proverbial holy dip and offer prayers at Sangam, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers.
On February 24, Modi had visited Kumbh and after performing rituals, washed the feet of a few sanitation staff members for keeping the Kumbh Mela area spic and span, which has earned the plaudits of one and all.
In the last edition of Kumbh 2013, about 120 million pilgrims had visited the Mela area.
