Coal production up 8% to 638 million tonnes

The domestic coal production during April-February 2018-19 stood at more than 638 million tonnes (MT) compared to 591 MT during the corresponding period last year, thus growing by 8%.
Top producer Coal India Limited (CIL) with production target of 610 MT for 2018-19, has so far clocked 527 MT compared to 495 MT during the corresponding period of the previous year, returning a growth of 6.6% on year-on-year basis.
Coal production target of captive mines stood at 40 MT for 2018-19. They logged production of 44 MT compared to 34 MT during the corresponding period of previous year.
