Smriti Irani to visit Rahul Gandhi’s turf of Amethi tomorrow

Union textiles minister HRD minister Smriti Irani is scheduled to visit Amethi tomorrow to lay the foundation of several projects and distribute largesse to beneficiaries under central schemes.


Amethi is the parliamentary constituency of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, while Irani had unsuccessfully contested from the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha poll. However, she had reduced Gandhi’s victory margin drastically to about 100,000 votes from about 370,000 and 290,000 votes in 2004 and 2009 general elections respectively.


Since 2014, she has been regularly visiting Amethi to keep alive her bond with the electorate and challenge the Gandhi scion in his home turf in run up to the crucial 2019 face off.


According to sources, she would reach Jawahar Navoday Vidyalaya in Gauriganj, Amethi around 11:30 am, where she would distribute helping aids to 1,500 differently-abled persons.


She would also attend a job fair organised by the PM Skill Development Centre. The union minister would also launch a skill development centre, primary health centre, power supply centre, development block etc in Amethi.


Besides, Irani would lay the foundation of 49 new connecting roads, 4 new industrial training institutes (ITI), 200 hand pumps etc.


On Friday, she had toured Lucknow to address a series of programmes, including the three-day Manfest 2018 organised by the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L).
